Dutertre practiced in orthopedics in the late18th-early 19th century. Little is known about his life that is not deduced from this volume. At this point in history, orthopedic medicine dealing with the hand was confined to braces of various configurations. In Traité d'opérations nouvelles Duterte demonstrates some of his own designs to treat a variety of conditions.
